2018 CA-10/CD-10 Congressional Primary Victory.

06/05/2018: When Josh Harder announced, he was then or recently a "Vice President" with Bessemer Venture Partners. BVP has $4.5 Billion under contract. In terms of campaign finance, most campaigns are petty cash for them. As a partnership, most campaign finance restrictions do not apply to them except for personal contribution limits, but wait, they are an LLC dba a partnership* so the FEC treatment is more complex. Josh said he didn't accept any PAC** or Corporate* money? Really!?! The Bessemer Trust group is many multiples of the largest PAC, and of course Deer is a "corporation", even if an LLC. They started shoveling cash into Josh's campaign from early on, 16 of the 27 "partners" contributing mostly at the max or double-max, and it appears they also fed in cash from their massive spiderweb of clients, vendors, investments, investors, and other "you-owe-me" contacts (with combined wealth of well over a trillion dollars), which is how he was able to make you think he is some sort of campaign finance wizard. 27 sugar daddy "partners" with $4,500,000,000 worth of power and influence, you got fooled, and Josh is bought and paid for. Some of those partners contributed to Trump or Ted Cruz - what makes you think Josh is going to pay attention to any of your Democratic ideals?

Anybody notice how one day he started calling himself "progressive". Really!?! And of course with the money the LLC & shareholders are pocketing from the Trump Tax Bill, will Josh find some excuse to vote against repealing that?

And then there are the interesting legal issues in his campaign financing. Can he be in Congress with all that unanswered?

* Bloomberg says:
"Deer Management Co. LLC, doing business as Bessemer Venture Partners," btw, "Deer Management" is the practice of managing herds of deer (that would be you) so they can "harvest" them (as in shoot them).

Somehow, $4.5 billion Bessemer Venture Partners/Deer Management is related to $140 billion AUM Bessemer Trust:

Bessemer Trust wiki
Founder Henry Phipps, Jr. [ Family & descendants ]
Website bessemer.com
Wiki: Bessemer Trust, founded in 1907, is a private, independent office that oversees more than $140 billion AUM for over 2,500 families, foundations, and endowments.[1] The firm has their headquarters in New York City and 19 regional offices elsewhere in the world.[2

Institutional Investor; Bessemer began to set itself apart from its rivals with an astute early push into alternative investments. The firm had dabbled in venture capital as far back as 1987, when it placed $50 million of non-Phipps money into the $100 million Tyler Fund managed by Bain Capital. (Bessemer's sister company - and the Phipps family's private investment vehicle, Bessemer Securities Corp. - has long been an active venture investor through its primary subsidiary Bessemer Venture Partners.)

But:

https://www.valuewalk.com/2016/10/gilded-age-fortunes-in-venture-capital-private-equity/
In 1907, Phipps formed the Bessemer Trust Company to manage his family's assets. In 1911, he spun out Bessemer Securities as a separate entity that eventually became the Bessemer Venture Partners we know today. The firm can legitimately trace its roots to more than a century ago, making it (as far as we can tell) the longest-operating VC firm in the US.

So as a Bessemer Trust "sister company", what role does the extended Phipps family play in it today?

The high-risk group of BSC made private equity and venture capital investments throughout the century, and was spun off in 1981 as Bessemer Venture Partners.

And this extensive list, including acquiring companies, backs up the
suggestion that behind BVP's $4.5 billion in resources supporting
Josh Harder is hundreds of billions more, note those acquiring companies,
    all "you-owe-me" friends:
Cumulative BVP Portfolio, more than 600 past & present portfolio companies
(out of the 1806 pitchfork.com says is the correct number).

By the way, some of the portfolio companies are Russian.

Also btw, on 09/16/2018, TIME Magazine was purchased by Marc Benioff,
Salesforce founder, CEO & billionaire. Affiliate Salesforce Ventures
partnered with BVP in funding of Zylo for instance.
And, of course, the acquisition of the Washington Post by
Amazon (BVP customer) founder Jeff Bezos. . . . Were will all that lead?

[IN PROGRESS], spreadsheet in Quatro-Pro format of Itemized Individual Contributions
with annotations of internet-listed connections to BVP, probably unreadable for you so see
PDF FORMAT, or, if you prefer,
that pdf sorted by proximity to BVP. - note that if you dig sufficiently
you will eventualy find very few VC firms, startups, or startup buyers
without some sort of "Six Degree" connection with BVP.

Open book Bar Exam question:

Your company, apparently a partnership or apparently an LLC dba a partnership, hires me as a "Vice President". You maintain a somewhat secret client and contact list that you regard as worth millions of dollars. You control $4.500,000,000 (that's billions) worth of assets. One day I decide to run for Congress in an exurb District that I have had some contact with and in which I regard both the electorate and the parties as politically unsophisticated. I collected $8100 from 3 donors before making my first FEC filing. Apparently all of my first few donations were from connections through your company, and a few weeks later I resigned, possibly after having solicited donations from some of your clients. Initial on the ground campaigning is not encouraging and I find that most people within the District just don't like me. After leaving your company, desperate, even though 16 of your 27 Partners made campaign donations, mostly the maximum, and some of whom also donated to Trump or Ted Cruz, I start calling or your partners start calling your client, vendor, investments, contact, and prospect list (you-owe-me friends with combined wealth of hundreds of billions) seeking campaign funds and pull in a million dollars in contributions. No payment to you for use of that list is shown on my FEC reports. Dazzled by my fundraising, the experts in the target District soon decide they like me after all and I Am The Chosen One, the field whittles down, and my trolls and push polls go to work on the rest of the field. Eventually I take a spot teaching a single class at a local junior college, possibly a corporation at zero or below-market salary but only for one semester. I use this educational connection in my campaign. My campaign manager abruptly resigns, along with my financial and reporting team. I profess not having accepted PAC or corporate money, but that is false. Since you are larger than any PAC and most Corporations you clearly own me if I am elected. And meanwhile, you and your 4.5 billion dollar corporation figured out that you could make unlimited donations by simply ignoring all the law requiring and limiting PACs.

Discuss. Weave in Federal and State Statutes, including RICO and its component links, other conspiracy statutes, and bribery and embezzlement for instance, plus FEC and SEC statutes, rules and regulations. Be mindful of how contribution limits affect a partner if he has already contributed the maximum before determining there is an in-kind donation by the partnership, or mindful how or if the LLC moots the partnership in-kind issue including whether or not there are corporate straw contributions and how to look for them. You may use any on-line or written sources you wish and should cite specific code sections. Conclude whether or not prosecution is warranted and if so, by whom, of whom, and for what.

Bonus points:
1) Discuss, especially with regards to pattern of behavior and RICO, inclusion of persons on my mailers endorsing me who didn't actually endorse me. Discuss the exposure of any agent preparing my mailers with such endorsements

2) Discuss what kind of firewall between my campaign and your client list is appropriate.
